RICK

Ever since I have been home, I felt like I was in a daze. I had to come to grips that my pops was gone and wasn’t coming back. I knew I had to be strong and hold up for my mom though. They had been married for 44 years, so I knew her heart was beyond broken. She was worse off than me; that I was sure of.

“Baby you need to eat something.” Kema said as she came and sat down next to where I was. In her hand she had a sandwich on a plate for me.

I had just come from finalizing all of my pops burial details and the last thing I wanted to do was eat. My parents had life insurance and had planned for their funerals beforehand, but I still paid for everything. “You right, let me just go shower and change and I’ll be back out.” I said as I got up to head to the bathroom, but not before I gave her a deep passionate kiss.

My baby has been by my side through all of this and I love her even more for it.

“Ok, I’ll go and set the food out and check on your mom. I’ll see you when you get out.” She told me as she left the room.

I went into the bathroom and started my shower. When I got in, I let the water beat down my face and body. It was then that I finally broke down and started to cry. Man I missed my pops! Getting that phone call from my mom that night was terrible, but coming home to find out he was actually gone, was an experience in itself. My dad has always been there for me and everyone else he loved. He never missed a game I had growing up. Even if he had to work, he still made sure to at least make the last quarter. When I was in college,
